A permanent challenge.

In 2003 the adventure started with the preparations of a teambuilding initiative. Together with 25 colleagues Wim Bosmans had one goal : climbing the highest mountain in West-Europe, the Mont-Blanc.

Each participant was very impressed by the scenery, the sleek preparation and the way the team was guided to the top. It was team building at its highest level. After the adventure the team was ecstatic. Other companies and participants showed their interest in such events.

  • 2004 : summiting the Mont Blanc (4.810m)

The ascent of the Mont Blanc (4.810m), the highest mountain the Alps was a very tough endurance journey demanding the utmost of the climbers, physically and mentally. For all participants - going from marathon runners and serious bikers to occasional sportsmen - the ascent of the Mont Blanc was the toughest sports experience ever ; no joke! This journey, too often qualified as easy, shouldn't be underestimated. The large solitary mountain is subject to weather depressions. The route slithers over rocks and ice. The Mont Blanc can become very treacherous at every weather change, stone shower or other high mountain dangers. And of course reaching the summit is fantastic but the participants need to keep enough energy to complete the heavy descent safely. The complete team reached the Pont Blanc summit successfully.

  • 2005 : creation of Beyond Limits and preparations of the first ascent

  • 2006 : ascent of the Mount Kilimanjaro (5.895m) in Tanzania

Just 3 degrees below the equator the snow covered summit raises above the African scenery. The is the highest mountain in Africa (5.895 m) and the tallest freestanding mountain on earth. It has 3 summits: Shira, Mawenzi and the snow covered main summit Kibo. We choose to start the ascent via the famous and splendid Machame route. For Beyond Limits it was not only important to reach the top but also to take the nicest way up. The programme included a perfect acclimatisation; nevertheless only 11 team member s out of 17 reached the summit.

Charity:Charity: Beyond Limits donated two pallets of high quality IT material to Close the Gap for different projects in Tanzania

  • 2007 : Nepal - ascent of Thapa Peak (6.013m)

Climbing Thapa Peak was an unforgettable combination of challenging mountain sport, breathtaking nature and ancient culture.
From Kathmandu we passed the highest mountains in the world Cho Oyu, Shisha Pangma and Mount Everest during a spectacular flight on our way to the beginning of Dhaulagiri. Here we started our acclimatisation trip. But at an altitude of 5.000m we were forced to end our ascent because of very bad weather conditions. It was nevertheless an exceptional trekking through the beautiful Kandaki valley.

Charity: Beyond Limits contributed EUR 2.400 to the production, delivery and installation of 100 Heavy Gassifier Stoves in the mountain village of Sundarijal in Nepal through the Foundation for Sustainable Technologies (FoST). A very successful ICT party was organised in Belgium to raise the necessary funds

  • 2008 : Ecuador : ascent of 5 vulcanoes

For the 2008 expedition we choose Ecuador, the smallest state of the Andes countries, situated on the equator with a wonderful nature, exciting culture and impressive glacier volcanoes.
The Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world, and the Cayambé is the highest mountain on the equator!
Several volcanoes between 3.500 and 4.900m were useful for the necessary acclimatisation, such as Pasochoa, Rucu Pichincha and Ilinizo North.
Unlike the Alps or Himalayan Mountains which are ranges of Mountains, the Ecuadorian cordilleras summits stand isolated in the landscape. The views from those summits are forever marked in our memories.

Charity: donation of some 15 portable computers (ICT Expedition Belgium 2008) to Danielle's Children Fund for shelters in Ecuador and Nepal.

2008 : the first Dutch ICTexpedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

19 well prepared and enthusiastic Dutch team members started the climb via the popular and beautiful Machame route; finally 18 reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, exhausted but very happy.

Charity: almost EUR 14.000 raised for:
    - Right to Play,an international NGO that uses sport and play programmes to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace for children
and Close the Gap, for the building of a classroom with 15 to 20 computers and other requisites in Lyamungu Moshi (Mwowe Primary School), in Tanzania

  • 2009 : the first Belgian-Dutch expedition: ascent of Mount Jarvis in Alaska

In 2009 we headed for Alaska, more specifically the Wrangell National Park. But here again the weather decided for us; because of the high temperatures it was unsafe to land the plane at the foot of Mount Sanford where the snow covering numerous invisible crevasses was melting. The alternative chosen was the 4.200m high Mount Jarvis.

Beyond Limits collected some EUR 20.000 for the Verkaart Foundation. Twelve orphans in Kenya will receive education under the supervision of the Verkaart development team for a period of four years

"An expedition is so much more than just climbing a mountain. It's about planning and tactics, and showing respect to the team and to nature, by making the right decision at the right time. That's the only way to get to the top."
